Alistair Erskine British

“I try to capture fleeting interaction of colour with colour and with light and composition”.

Inspired by the ‘plein air’ oil sketches of Constable, Corot, Leighton and Nicholson Alistair Erskine is also influenced by the Scottish Colourists with their more intense extraction of colour through tonal planning and outline.  Above all he aims for unaffected freshness by working swiftly from nature, capturing mood and colour in a way that interprets his observations in its most natural form. His land and seascapes convey a sense of place and draw heavily on light and tone.

Alistair was brought up in Dorset and Hampshire and has enjoyed family holidays in the South West since childhood, staying all over the South Hams and Dartmoor. More recently he has been staying at Mothecombe, where he loves painting the secluded beaches and hidden coves that are such favourites.  A keen fisherman and sailor he loves being near and on the water.

His landscape and still life paintings have been exhibited at James Harvey British Art in Chelsea, Browse and Darby in Cork Street and at the Chelsea Art Society.  He has toured with TRHs The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall as the official artist of their tour of Spain, Portugal and Morocco in 2011 and his paintings are held in the Royal Collection.
