I have experimented with a number of art disciplines but the joy and challenges of working with oil is unparalleled. Oil affords me the immediacy of energetic, spontaneous expression when working wet on wet, or a more reflective approach when drying time dictates. Despite working from sketches and memory, I nevertheless paint intuitively as if in the process I am declaring my love and gratitude for the natural world in which I immerse myself.
Alison paints in oils, although charcoal and inks are often also employed in her work. She revels in the physical and instinctive process of working with the paint, using both knife and brush. Her paintings are predominanatly an emotional reaction to the landscape and coastline. Her work is full of energy and movement and as a viewer, it is easy to get drawn in to each painting.
In addition to her painting, Alison has worked for various arts publications, launched magazines, and continues to promote artists and their work. She is currently collaborating with leading contemporary artist Simeon Stafford and has recently compiled a book on his work. She has self-published five children's books.
Alison is a Trustee of the South West Academy and has worked with them since their inception in 2000.
Art which isn’t based on feeling isn’t Art at all.
